As these two lonely souls spend more time together, they decide to use each other as a substitute for the one they truly love, sharing physical intimacy with one another in order to stave off their loneliness.

Many people say Mugi and Hanabi’s relationship would have been toxic if they did end up together at the end of Scum’s Wish and I wholeheartedly agree. I think they had to love themselves as individuals before they could find true love because both of them were self-destructive and emotionally healing.

It's a bit open to interpretation, but in my opinion it ends with the path open for them to go into a relationship now with the whole mess behind them. The original
